Black Friday deals are not what they seem, with Twitter users accusing online fashion retailer ASOS to be among the offenders.

With Black Friday officially starting tomorrow, ‘Which?’ has revealed that 95% of “deals” in the sales are the same price or even cheaper after the sales have finished. 61% of the items looked at were the same price or cheaper before sales had even started.

Today, ASOS launched its “biggest ever” Black Friday sale, with discounts of up to 70% off everything on site.

However, shoppers were quick to criticise this morning on Twitter. #ASOSBlackFriday is currently trending, but not only with promotional tweets from @ASOS, but also with accusations that “deals” that aren’t what they seem.

For example, a branded fleece purchased 2 weeks ago by @scamp_studio cost £45, but in the sale claims to have been reduced from £50 to £47.50.

It’s not only brands which sell men’s fashion that have been called out for initially raising prices to make sale prices look better. @vsatkins on Twitter, pointed out that only yesterday a pair of ladies’ boots were priced at £36, yet today’s sale says they were reduced from £45 to £33.50, with accusing ASOS of a “scam”.
